Institute of
Instrument Science and Technology,
Tsinghua
University
The
Institute covers all of the core areas of modern
instrument science and technology, including micro/nano
technology, optic storage, precision instruments, GN&C
(guidance, navigation, and control) technology, smart
instruments, sensing technology, smart microsystems and
life science instruments. The teaching and research
programs in the Institute are organized according to the
disciplinary theme, with strong inter-disciplinary
programs involving academic cooperations with
corporations and research institutes.
In 1981,
the State Council Academic Degree Commission recognized
the Institute as eligible to grant speciality (Precision
Instrument and Mechanical Engineering) doctorates. In
1988, Precision Instruments and Mechanical Engineering
became nationally accredited discipline; the Institute
also established Post-doctoral Research Station for
Instrument Technology. In 1989, the Institute founded
National Key Laboratory for Precision Measuring
Technology and Instrument with Tianjin University. In
1997, the Institute established eligibility to grant
disciplinary doctorates. In 2001, the Institute heads
the list in the National Key Discipline evaluation with
a perfect score. In 2003, the Institute also received a
perfect score in National Instrument Science and
Technology Discipline evaluation.
Being an important part of National Key Laboratory of Precision Measuring
Technology and Instrument Science, The Institute is
equipped with a plethora of modern equipment and
experimental instruments as well as many prestigious
research facilities, including OMNERC (Optical Memory
National Engineering Research Center), Tsinghua Space
and Aeronautics Technique Center, central laboratory of
Tsinghua Micro/Nano Technology Research Center, Tsinghua
GN & C Technology Engineering Center, Joint Laboratory
for Micro Satellite Technology, Joint Laboratory for
Micro Inertial Technology and Instrument, Joint
Laboratory for GN & C, and Contemporary GN & C Center
for Experiments and Teaching (a Tsinghua University
teaching base for experiments).
From 70s to 90s, the Institute published more than one thousand research
papers, patented over a hundred devices, and developed
numerous instruments and techniques covering
semiconductor manufacturing equipment, electrostatic
gyro, recordable optical discs, MEMS technology, micro
airborne GN & C system, medical equipment and
transducers, among which are optical disc system based
on photo-thermal effect, digital quartz force transducer
and MEMS-based airborne GN & C system and its key
technologies winning the second prize of National
Invention Award. The Institute also undertake many
projects of great importance in many including National
Programs for Fundamental Research and Development ("973"
Program), National Programs for High Technology Research
and Development ("863" Program), programs serving The
Ministry of National Defense, programs funded Natural
Science Foundation of China, National key scientific and
technological projects. We are also in charge of over 30
courses around university involving instruments science,
measuring and control technology, including 2 courses
named as Beijing Elite Courses. The Institute houses
nearly 60 staffs, including 1 Cheung Kong Scholar
Professor, 11 incumbent professors, 18 associate
professors, and 13 lecturers, 27 with doctorates.
The Institute consists of the six following laboratories, namely:
Precision Institute and Measuring Technology Laboratory,
Sensing Technology and Smart Instrument Laboratory,
Microsystems and Control Technology Laboratory,
Micro-optical-mechanical-electrical Technology
Laboratory, GN&C Laboratory, Optic Storage and
Information Processing Laboratory.
